Announcements 12/24/04

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Hope every one is having a great break. I wanted to take this time to recognize James Atherton and Robert Houston for the great job they have done in the dual credit program we sponsor. James received a B in U.S. History and Robbie received A's in Sign Language and College Algebra. Together they both earned 12 hours of college credit in the fall semester. Next semester, they will be joined by Amanda Alcala and Corey Milford as they also take classes through Mesa Community College. Great jobs James and Robbie. Take care.

Announcements 12/8/04

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Hope every one is well.

On a personal note, I would like every one to know that today is my parents' 39th Wedding anniversary. I know every one who reads this will wish them well for the next 39 years.

We had a very good meeting of the Site Based Council today where Miss Foy, Mrs. Houston, Mr. Boothe, Mr. Gordon, Amanda Alcala, Kiya Kennedy, Charmarie Lechuya, Angela Spadafino, and Robert Houston took important steps towards redeveloping the school improvement plan and other school related matters. The next meeting will be on 12/16/04 at 2:30-2:45pm.

Students were today handed out the itinerary for the proposed Washington DC trip in June. Please let me know by 12/15 if there are interested parties. Thank you.

We would like to take this time to notify parents that we had an incident yesterday involving smoking. We want to stress to families that this is an act that the school will never tolerate. Those directly involved have been either immediately excused from the school or will leave at the end of the semester. We want all families to know that the staff at Grand Canyon will always seek to provide a safe campus where its students will have the opportunity to receive a first rate education. If there are any questions on this matter, please do not hesitate to call or email me. Thank you and take care.

Announcements

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Progress Reports will be released on Monday December 6, 2004. Sorry for the brief delay.

Public Policy Class needs your help in raising $5.00 per family for our Holiday Gift Drive. Please help.

We need your assistance. The school is beginning the process of another five year school improvement cycle with the North Central Association. As you may know, NCA is the accrediting body that sanctions colleges and schools in seventeen states across the country. We need your help in two ways. First, we will be asking parents and students to serve on our new site based committee that will oversee the new plan. Second, we need you to fill out the new evaluation forms we handed to your children today. Please fill them out and get them to us by December 7, 2004.

Another Friendly Reminder that the Nutcracker at the Orephum Theater will be on 12/10/04 at 10:30. Chaperones are welcome and needed.

We are also ascertaining interest in a trip to Washington DC and New York City at the end of the school year. It is for 8-10 days and students who go may receive a 1/2 high school credit for school work. The cost of the trip (not including individual out of pocket expenses) is $1,000. Please let us know by December 15 who is interested in going.

It is that time of year when schools ask families if they would like to donate money to their favorite schools for tax credits. Single parent families may receive up to a $200 credit and married parent families may receive up to $250. If there are any questions, you may contact me at 480 233 3622.

THE STAFF AT GRAND CANYON IS VERY HAPPY WITH SOME OF THE RESULTS OF THIS FIRST SEMESTER. PUBLIC POLICY STUDENTS PRODUCED A GET OUT THE VOTE TELEVISION COMMERCIAL THAT AIRED ON MTV AND COMEDY CENTRAL. SCI FI STUDENTS ARE WRITING STORIES AND POEMS THAT WILL BE SUBMITTED FOR POSSIBLE PUBLICATION IN THE FRANK LITERARY MAGAZINE. STUDENTS AT OUR SCHOOL HAVE RECEIVED SCHOLARSHIPS FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY. FINALLY, WE HAVE FOUR STUDENTS WHO ARE SLATED TO EARN AT LEAST FOUR HOURS OF COLLEGE CREDIT IN A DUAL CREDIT PROGRAM. WE WANT TO USE THESE SUCCESSES TO BUILD ON THE FIRM FOUNDATION THAT HAS BEEN LAID.
