Announcements for 5/31/05

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We hope you are all well after the holiday break.

TACO BELL for lunch tomorrow.

We have full days all this week. Next week, we have a full day on Monday and finals afterwards. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are half days. Finals will end at 11:00 on Friday and school will reconvene at 12:00 at the new site where we will have the end of the year ceremony.

We are pleased to announce all the recipients of this years school awards except for one. These students have displayed academic and professional excellence through out the school year.

Student with the highest Grade Average: Nichole Van Enwyck
Student with the strongest leadership skills: Amanda Alcala
Student who displayed the strongest citizenship: Angela Spadafino
Students who improved the most academically through out the school year: Kiya Kennedy and Alfred Gable
Students who had the best attendance: Chamarie Lechugya and Cody Milford
Students who have had the most consistent academic performance: Nichole Van Enwyck and Howard Lanus:

THE STUDENT OF THE YEAR HAS BEEN DECIDED ON BY THE GRAND CANYON FACULTY AND WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT THE END OF THE YEAR CEREMONY.

Next Year, Grand Canyon will feature a variety of extracurricular activities: These include Academic Decathlon, Speech and Debate, Chess/Game Club, Spanish and Japanese Club, Yearbook/Student Magazine, Theater, Hiking, and Science Project. We feel students will enjoy these new opportunities.

Announcements for May 25, 2005

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Hope every one is well. Final Examination Reviews and study guides are being handed out to students this week.

World History students will have oral presentation final projects in addition to their research finals.

United States History students will have team and individual papers to complete

Please advise if there are any questions on any of the final examinations.

Please remember Friday is a half day and Monday is no school. The next Site Based Meeting will be announced next week.

Finals will start on June 7 and go through June 10. June 7, 8, and 9 are half days and June 10 is an assembly schedule before the end of the year ceremony at the new site.

There will be an open house at the new site on June 4 and remember that there is a Diamondbacks game for interested parties on June 9.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Sorry for the delay as the year is winding down.

I want to thank Mrs. Davilla, Ms. Kennedy, Mrs. Alcala and Gabys sister for driving the students to our field trips of Macbeth and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. It is extremely appreciated.

U.S. History Students have individual and team papers to prepare.

Law students have legal arguments to prepare for. The Evolution one is slated for Thursday.

Announcements for May 11, 2005

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Please remember that the school is taking a field trip to SRP and the landfill tomorrow. On May 13, we have a Site Based Meeting followed by a quick Governing Board Meeting. The subject is the Revised Budget and School Improvement Plan.

We are happy to report that starting next year Miss Foy and Mr. Boothe will assume increased roles as Faculty Advisors to our students. With Mr. Simeone and myself, they will work with students through out their learning experience with us and counsel them on academic success plans. Other schools have tried this approach and have had much success.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Please do not forget to get permission slips in for the field trip to SRP and the landfill on Thursday.

Some U.S. History students have Causes of Civil War Paragraphs due on Thursday. About half of the students completed them today.

U.S. History students also have research papers due on 6/2/05. They will also give oral presentations on June 9.

Do not forget Japanese or Spanish homework. Take care.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Hope every one is well.

We sent notes with all the students pertaining to the end of the 2006 school year trip to Washington DC. Please look it over and take advantage of this great opportunity.

All English classes: Last chances on research paper and all memory book entries.

We also want to take this time to acknowledge Jessica Falvey and Danya Woodhams for their good work at Tempe Christian Pre School. They will be recognized by them on Thursday, May 19 at a special luncheon for all their volunteers.

Site Based Council Meeting on Friday after school. Governing Board Meeting next Monday.

BAKE SALE A GREAT SUCCESS

DEAR PARENTS AND GUARDIANS,

The Bake Sale at the new site today was a great success. New families came and inquired about our program and we raised funds for both the Yearbook and Literacy Volunteers. I want to thank the following people for making this successful bake sale a reality: Mrs. Davila, Mrs Alcala, Mrs. Houston, Mrs. Spadafino, Mrs. Eisenheim, Dr. Gordon, Miss Foy, Mr. Harmon, Amanda, Angela, Larissa, Gaby, Cory, and Brent. THEY DID A GREAT JOB TODAY. Next week, Miss Foy is planning a car wash. We hope to repeat the same success then. Thank you again to every body and take care.

I want to take the time to thank all the students for participating in moving items from the current site and storage area to the new sites. Special thanks to Cory, Al, Kiya, Gaby, Chamarie, Lizzie, Brent, and Amanda for actually making the drive to both locations. It was a great teambuilding and leadership assignment.
