Announcments and Assignments for January 25

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We hope every one is well.

We are happy to announce that Grand Canyon Prep has been accepted into the Arizona Interscholastic Association beginning in the 2006/07 school year. We will be able to compete in activities such as Chess, Drama, and Speech and Debate. Over time, we hope to compete in athletic events.

AIMS High School Writing will be on February 28 and AIMS High School Reading will be on March 1.

The school will be journeying to the Renaissance Festival on March 2 and the Phoenix Art Museum on March 7 to view the Impressionist exhibit.

Earth Science: Read chapter 14 and do multiple choice questions

Life Science: Finish assignment 111-112 Read 112-114 and define terms

Announcements and Assignments for January 23, 2006

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We hope every one had a great weekend.

We wanted to take a moment and introduce the new staff members that have joined our school. Sarah Zachreson will be teaching History and Art for the remainder of the semester.She has a Masters in Education from the University of Phoenix. Dr. Michael Budek will teach Science for us. He has a background in psychological and physiological sciences. Todd Burke will be assisting us on curriculum and school administrative matters. He is a certified K-12 principal. We know they will be wonderful additions to the Grand Canyon family.

Earth Science: Read next chapter and answer multiple choices.

Announcements and Assignments for 1/19/06

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We hope every one is well.

We are happy to report that Amber Winscom has started an internship with Senator John McCains office in Tempe. We know she will do a great job.

We are also happy to report that Amanda Alcala, Angela Spadafino, Nichole Van Enwyck, Amber Winscom, Brent Davila, and Howard Lanus are all enrolled in dual credit courses at Mesa Community and Central Arizona Community Colleges. Compared to a traditional public school, we have a higher percentage of students taking college level courses.

Please remember that tomorrow is a half day and site based council meeting. Classes end at 11:00.

English students have to translate speech from Hamlet.

Homework is light otherwise because of the abbreviated schedule this week

REPORT CARDS ARE OUT. THE NEW HONOR ROLL IS UP. Amber Winscom automatically qualifies for a laptop computer because she has the highest semester average for a new student. Brent Davila also qualifies because he received a 92 in College Level Biology at Mesa Community College. Martin Ortega, Rebecca Kielsky, Gaby Ritter, DJ Owsley, Andrew Gallini, and Kristi Quiroz are still in the running for a laptop computer.

The school is going to see a production of Hamlet on January 19 at the new Mesa Arts Center. Parent Chaperones are welcome. School is off on January 16 for Martin Luther King Day.

Welcome Back

We want to take this opportunity to welcome every one back after the break.

The new semester will officially start on Thursday

First Semester Report Cards will be released by next Monday. They may also come as early as Friday.

Site Based Council will meet on Thursday at 2:45 p.m.

We are so glad that everyone had a safe and happy break and we are looking forward to many happy events in the second semester.
