Announcements and Assignments for Friday

We hope you are all well,

Please remember that tomorrow is picture day. Students are to be in uniform except for seniors who are to be professionally attired for graduation pictures.

We gave out Parent Feedback surveys to the students that are due to the school this Friday. Please complete and hand in to Mrs. Gordon at the front desk.

Please remember that Permission Slips/Note and $15.00 for the Renaissance Festival are due on February 5. Students need to be in uniform for that event as well.

Summer School Flyers for students who will need assistance in English and Mathematics will be released next week.

There will be a Board Meeting to ratify the school calendar for the 2008/09 school year on February 5 at 3:00 p.m.

We will have six students and two faculty members journeying to Japan during Spring Break. We are already planning next years trips which will be to Italy and Spain and Washington D.C..

Assignments and Announcments for Friday

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We hope you are all well,

Permission slips will be given out for the Renaissance Festival tomorrow. There are only 40 tickets available and preference will be given to those students who have demonstrated great scholarship and citizenship. The due date for permission slips plus money ($15.00 per table) is 2/5.

At the school community meeting, several topics pertaining to the 2008/09 school year were discussed. At the conclusion of that meeting and after conducting elective surveys with the students, several items were agreed upon.

In addition to Spanish and Japanese, Chinese and French will also be offered at Grand Canyon Prep for the 2008/09 school year. There was also support for Russian and Sign Language and one or both are forecast to start during the 2009/10 school year.

For families who that want their children to stay longer in school during the day, a fifth hour will be created where, for a nominal fee, courses in Art, Music, and Physical Education will be featured.

Summer School with an emphasis on English and Mathematics will be offered to students in the month of June. There will be a registration fee and more information will follow later next week.
The 2008/09 School calendar was discussed and Fall Break may be shorter with spring break extended in order to accommodate the overseas trip to Italy and Spain. We are also planning a trip to Washington D.C. in the summer of 2009. The calendar will be up for ratification at our Board Meeting on February 5, 2008.


Our program will be expanded to include more opportunities in the Arts and Sciences. In order to stay ahead of the States increased Graduation Requirements, Grand Canyon has revised its programs of study to reflect the increased needs for more science, economic, and historical literacy.

This has been a fantastic year at Grand Canyon Prep. As of last semester, our students have earned close to 170 hours of college credit. Two more students will be nominated for Presidential Freedom Scholarships through the Corporation of National Service for their work at the Thomas Pappas School. We are taking our second overseas trip to Japan during spring break of 2008.

As we build for the New Year, we anticipate limited openings in grades seven through twelve. Please feel free to refer friends and neighbors who have children in grades 7-12 who would thrive in our program. Because of our small school community, small class sizes and unique course opportunities, an education at Grand Canyon Prep will prepare all students who want to succeed for college. We are hosting an open house on Saturday January 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and we will hold another one two weeks later on February 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

FIRST SEMESTER REPORT CARDS ARE OUT. PLEASE CALL IF THERE ARE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR CHILD'S GRADES.
