Announcements and Assignments for September 30

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We hope every one has a great weekend.

Prospective Soccer players will be meeting with Mr. B on Monday right after school.

Prospective Hiking club members will meet with Mrs. Houston on Thursday.

I know we are a little late but we wanted to wish belated birthday wishes to Amber Winscom and Kassie Kost for September. In October Elise Gonzales,Patrice Rancifer, Kiya Kennedy,Jorel Castillo, and Nellie Ann Holguin have birthdays. Mr. Harmon, Miss Mitchell, and Mr. Gordon also have October birthdays.

Please remember Ralphs snack bar will be delivering lunch starting Monday. All students (including free and reduced)need to bring money to pay or bring their own lunch from home. Please email if there are any questions.

We are very happy to reveal that the Board of Education approved a $10,000 Learn and Serve grant to our school to be utilized in our Public Policy Policy class. Some of our students will be selected to attend a camping trip in Prescott this fall to develop team building and leadership skills. We will let you know more when we get the registration information.

Public Policy class is asking each family to donate $20 so we can fund cable time for a commercial that will reduce the dropout rate in Arizona.

It is not to late to donate money to the school for a tax credit. Married couples may donate up to $250 and single families may donate up to $300.

October 12 is PSAT day
October 13 is the Commercial shoot day for Public Policy.

Late October is the AIMS fall test for juniors and new seniors that did not master the test last year.

October 29 is the Halloween social.

Sci Fi Litertaure: Students need to continue to work on beginnings of their stories

Public Policy:students need to work on food drive, gift drive,and get ready for commercial.

We hope everyone is well.

GRAND CANYON PREP IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THAT IT IS A PERFORMING PLUS SCHOOL ACCORDING TO THE ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION. WE WANT TO THANK ALL OF THE STUDENTS,PARENTS, TEACHERS, AND STAFF THAT MADE THIS POSSIBLE. EARLIER LAST MONTH, WE WERE ALSO NOTIFIED THAT WE MADE ADEQUATE YEARLY PROGRESS ACCORDING TO THE FEDERAL NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND LAW.

We still have enrollment openings in grades six through twelve. Please ask anyone you know who may like our school program to give us a call.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We hope every one is well. We just have a few brief announcements this evening.

Pizza for lunch tomorrow.

The Public Policy class is raising money to produce a commercial that will air on Cox Cable. Its goal is to reduce the rate of high school drop outs. The school will cover the costs of the commercial but we need assistance with the air time. We are asking that each family contribute at least $20.00. Please help out the Public Policy class as they strive to help those in need.

IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO MAKE A TAX CREDIT DONATION TO THE SCHOOL. MARRIED COUPLES MAY DONATE $250 AND SINGLE FAMILIES MAY CONTRIBUTE $200. WE WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE THIS ASSISTANCE IN HELPING TO EXPAND OUR PROGRAMS.

Always remember that there is Japanese and Spanish homework

Sci Fi Lit students should complete rough drafts of the beginnings of their short stories.

We would like to take a moment and acknowledge three of our students who are excelling in the Performing Arts arena outside school. Kassie Kost was just accepted into the Metropolitan Youth Symphony. Congratulations Kassie. We also want to praise the hard work of Kritsi Quiroz and Brent Davila who also have theater projects they are pursuing. These students are great assets to both the Drama and Music classes at our school.

Josh VanEnwyck has received an internship opportunity with Boynton Productions this Saturday at the grand opening of the Mesa Arts Center. Good luck Josh.

Congradulations to Brent Davila on winning the Student Council Presidency. Amanda Alcala will be the Student Chancellor. Gabrielle Ritter will be the Student Treasurer. Meagan Kost will be the eigth grade respresenative. Joseph Spadafino will be the ninth grade representative. The other positions will be filled by tomorrow and Student Council will meet at 7:30 on Monday morning.

Thank you to every one who donated food, clothes, water and other items to victims of Hurricane Katrina. You all have had a true impact as these items will help several families in need. As a reward, we will have an ice cream party on Friday, September 16.

ELECTIONS FOR STUDENT COUNCIL PRESIDENT ARE ON THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 8. THE CANDIDATES ARE AMANDA ALCALA, BENT DAVILA, AND MEAGAN KOST. THEY GAVE GREAT SPEECHES TODAY IN ARTICULATING THEIR RESPECTED CANDIDACIES. THE NEW STUDENT COUNCIL WILL MEET NEXT MONDAY AFTER SCHOOL.

Help for victims of Katrina

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The Public Policy class and Grand Canyon as a whole would like to help out the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Please assist us by donating

a) Canned and Boxed Food items
b) Bottled water
c) Blankets and Pillows
d) Soap or other toilet tree items
e) Clothes that you no longer need
f) Toys for children

One of the missions of our school is service and the people in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama need our help. I know every one will do their best as we get everything together for the Salvation Army on Tuesday.
