Announcements for Monday

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We want to congratulate Joseph Spadafino, Amanda Alcala, and Amy Muratore for winning the Halloween Costume Contest. Each received gift certificates to the Mills Shopping Center. Furthermore, all the honor roll students (now featured on this blog site) received Harkins Movie Passes with Howard Lanus, Nichole Van Enwyck, and Angela Spadafino receiving additional passes to Harkins Movie Theater. Timeline Chart for World History III is due on Monday.

Announcements and Assignments for Friday

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Hope all is well. Here are some announcements and assignments for Friday

October 28 is when the Choir students go to see a production at the Valley Youth Theater.

October 29 is the Halloween Costume Contest. It is a full day and prizes are available for the best costumes and the best ghost stories from Miss Foys class.

November 2 is when the students will be doing exit voting surveys at various precincts. Chaperones are needed.

November 5 is the trip to Challenger Space Center. Chaperones are needed.

We will be adding a half day or two to the calendar in November to work on the new School Improvement Plan. Parents and students will be selected to participate.

Announcements
Report Cards are out. Congratulations to the following students who made it on the honor roll for the first quarter. They are in the running for a free laptop computer or scholarship funds if they come back in the 2005/06 year. Announcements and Assignments for Friday

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Due to an unavoidable delay, First Quarter Report Cards will be issued at the end of the day on Monday October 25. Furthermore, the Honor Roll will be published on Monday and parents and students will find out who are in the running for labtops or scholarship proceeds for next year.

Even though it is winter, please make sure that your children wear the correct attire for school and do not take this opportunity to hide causal shirts under their sweaters. Thanks.

Tuesday will be a half day.

Friday, October 29, is a full day and we are having a Halloween Costume Contest during fourth hour. All are encouraged to try out.

On November 2, we will be taking a field trip to voting precints where students will do an exit voting survey and get a feel for the election.

On November 5, we will be journeying to The Challenger Space Center and seeing the Mars Simulation. Chaperones are needed.

Hope every one is well. First Quarter Report Card Grades are due to come out tomorrow or Monday at the latest. I have seen the students grades in their classes and overall, they are very good.

Congratulations to Angela Spadafino, Nichole Van Enwyck, and Corey Milford. They took the ASSET test for Mesa Community College and placed into English 101. Along with Larissa Matthews, they also placed into College Reading. Nichole also placed into Accelerated Intermediate Algebra (MAT 122). We are very proud of them as we hope to arrange their enrolling in these courses in the spring semester.

Extra Credit to students who go to either Presidential Rally tonight and prepare a one page summary of the event.

Tomorrow and Friday are full days.

OCTOBER 15 IS THE END OF THE FIRST QUARTER AND PICTURE DAY

REPORT CARDS FOR FIRST QUARTER WILL BE RELEASED BY FRIDAY, OCTOBER 22.

October 26 is a half day.

AIMS for students who did not master any of reading, writing, or math tests wil be given around Oct. 26, 27, and 28

October 29 is Halloween Costume Contest Day where prizes will be offered.

November 2 is a field trip day where the students will be visiting voting precincts and doing exit polls. We want them to get a flavor of the education experience.

November 5 is a field trip to the Challenger Space Center where the students will be going on a Mars simulation. Chaperones are needed.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Hope every one is well. Here are a few announcements and homework assignments to be mindful of.

Calendar Adjustments: Due to the Presidential Debate and the traffic polemics that will result from it, tomorrow is a half day. PSATS will still be given to Juniors in the morning.

October 26 is also a half day.

October 29 is a Halloween Costume Contest with first, second, and third prizes

October 15 is picture day and the end of the first quarter

October 14 is when I will be taking selected students to MCC to take placement tests.

We have also given the students feedback forms for the first quarter. We like to know what you think. Please fill out and hand back as soon as possible.

Additional Announcements for Tuesday, October 12

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Hope every one is well. Please remember that school is on all this week after today and we will not have another holiday until November 11 and 12 for Veterans Day.

October 12: Board Meeting at 2:45. We will be approving the Annual Financial Report, minutes from previous board meetings, expenses, and a declaration of curriculum alignment for Department of Education.

October 12: Extra Credit Opportunity: Students may be released half an hour early tomorrow if they go to Arizona State and listen to former Middle East Ambassador Dennis Ross and his lecture on the Modern Middle East. Students will have to prepare a two page type written summary of the talk to receive 25 points of extra credit. The lecture is being held at the Main Hall of the College of Law. Parking is available at the Visitors Lot across the street.

October 13: PSAT for Juniors

October 13: Presidential Debate at ASU. There are pre and post debate rallies for both President Bush and Senator John Kerry. This would be a unique opportunity to get involved in the Presidential Race. President Bush will be at Bank One and Senator Kerry will at Tempe Town Lakes. There is extra credit in this to if you go and prepare a one page summary of the event and produce your ticket as evidence you attended.

October 15: End of First Quarter and Student/Staff Pictures

October 16: Earth Day at ASU
Italian Day at Tempe Town Lakes

October 17: College Fair at Phoenix Civic Plaza from 12:00 to 4:00

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Please remember that we have Thursday, Friday, and Monday off. We are in school on Tuesday October 12 through the remainder of the week.

congratulations to Mr. Boothe. His daughter gave birth to a six pound baby boy this morning named Riley Edward.

Thank you to Mr. Harmon for donating DVD'S to the Grand Canyon Library.

We have a Governing Board Meeting on Tuesday October 12 at 2:45. The primary purpose is to approve the Annual Financial Report for this year.

October 13 is PSAT for Juniors

October 15 is School Pictures

October 16 is Italian Day at the Tempe Town Lakes. It is also Earth Science Day at ASU.

We have 15 students that are interested in the summer trip to Italy after we let out of school. We will be working on this during the mini break. We hope to have an arrangement worked out with one of the Community Colleges on Dual Credit. More information will follow.

GREAT NEWS!!!! GRAND CANYON COLLEGE PREPARATORY ACADEMY HAS BEEN RECOGNIZED BY THE STATE OF ARIZONA AS A PERFORMNG SCHOOL WITH 82 PERCENT OF THE STUDENTS SHOWING IMPROVEMENT LAST YEAR. EARLIER THIS YEAR, GRAND CANYON WAS CITED BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FOR MAKING ADEQUATE YEARLY PROGRESS. WE ARE VERY PROUD OF OUR STUDENTS AND PLEDGE TO ALL OUR FAMILIES THAT WE WILL CONTINUE TO PROVIDE THE SAME EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES TO ALL OUR STUDENTS.


October 14: Several students have been selected to go to Mesa Community College next week to take a placement test to ascertain if they can take dual enrollment classes: These students are Nichole VanEnwyck, Angela Spadafino, Amanda Alcala, Nellie Ann Holguin, Danielle Yount, Nathan Hatch, Daniel Woodhams, Corey Milford, and Howard Lanus. I also want to take the time to recognize that James Atherton (who just earned his Eagle Scout credentials) and Robert Houston are currently taking college level courses this year.

We also want to thank Mrs. Yount and Mrs. Houston for being chaperones on today's Field Trip to the Riparian Park in Gilbert. Mr. Boothe did a great job in organizing it and it was a good choice for the first Science trip of the year. Next month we will be going to the Challenger Space Center to go on the Mars Simulation.

Announcements and Assignments for Wednesday

Hello Parents and Guardians,

We hope every one is doing well. Here is the latest gossip and assignments.

Days off: Please remember that Thursday, Friday, and Monday are off. Wednesday is a full day this week. Everything gets back to normal after that.

October 15: October 15 is important for two reasons. First: It is the end of the first quarter. The grades will be coming out the following week. Second, it is school picture day. More information will be sent home with the students.

Get Out the Vote Commercial; We gave the students the projected times the Public Policy Class Get Out the Vote Commercial will be broadcast. It will be on designated times on Comedy Central and MTV. If you have Cox and live in Tempe, you should be able to watch the commercial.

Congratulations to Robert Houston for receiving a $7000 scholarship to Northern Arizona University due to his hard work at Grand Canyon Prep. GREAT JOB ROBBIE.
