END OF THE YEAR ANNOUNCMENTS

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We hope you are all well. We want to thank every one for making this year a fantastic one. At the end of our school year, Grand Canyon Prep students set a mark by earning over 140 hours of college credit over the last four years. Our tenth graders performance on the AIMS test enabled Grand Canyon Prep to have a higher average test score in all three areas of the AIMS when compared to charter schools across the state.

Today we have mailed out your child's’ second semester report card, the summer reading list, and a Math review sheet to work on in preparation for the new school year. The summer reading list is largely historical and non fiction in scope because we felt that students need to increase their sense of global and historical awareness.

We want to congratulate Donald Arbgast who is our new Student of the Year. Also deserving congratulations are our graduates of the 2006/07 school year. They are Amanda Alcala, Arrumaisha (Sarah) Subiyantoro, (The High School Graduate of the Year), Nichole Van Enwyck, and Cory Milford. We commend D. J. Owsley for winning the Middle School Graduate of the Year Award. We congratulate the following students who have been on the honor roll all four quarters and will earn a laptop computer if they return for the 2007/08 school year and attend through October 15 (the only exception being the graduate of the year who is a senior and can not return). They are Arrumaisha (Sarah) Subiyantoro, Sarah Peterson, Rosie Virgin, Meagan Delander, Ethan McKenzie, Donald Arbgast, Dylan Arbgast, Dan Glawson, Shane Palmer, John Giovanetti, and Michael Giovanetti. . We also want to congratulate the students who have been on the honor roll all four quarters for at least two years in a row and have earned $250 towards college if they graduate from Grand Canyon Prep. These students are Howard Lanus, Angela Spadafino, Joseph Spadafino, and D.J. Owsley. A compete listing of the Fourth Quarter Honor Roll is on our blog site at www.grandcanyonprep.blogspot.com

Grand Canyon Prep is pleased to report that we will start our overseas summer program on June 11 when four Grand Canyon Students (Gabrielle Ritter, Kaycee Spiller, Jared Haden, and Howard Lanus) journey to Italy and see historic sites in Venice, Florence, Pisa, Pompeii, and Rome. The students will earn Social Studies credit for this trip. We are also planning a trip to Japan for the spring of 2008.

Summer Office Hours at Grand Canyon Prep are Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or by appointment. We will have open houses for new students on Saturday June 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; Saturday June 30 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; Wednesday July 10 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday July 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.. Please tell a friend about our great program as we still have limited openings in grades 6-12.

We are enthusiastically looking forward to the 2007/08 school year. There will be new electives such as Dance, Karate, Astronomy, and Environmental Science. We will be working with the Thomas Pappas School to help students that are homeless and in need. We will continue to have Art, Filmmaking, Drama, Forensic Science, Music, Strategy and Tactics, and Physical Education through the YMCA. There will be increased dual credit opportunities. We are also looking to offer Latin and Animation.

As you may be aware, Mrs. Wright and Mr.Lowther will not be returning for the 2007/08 school year. Mrs. Andrea Dornik will be our new Science teacher. She is certified in Biological Sciences and has been a supervisor for the Arizona division of the Environmental Protection Agency. Mr. Robert Slusser will be our new Middle School Social Studies and Mathematics instructor. He has three years of experience and is certified in both areas. Miss Foy, Mrs. Ratliff, Mr. Grago, Mr. Harmon, Mrs. Gordon, and I are looking forward to seeing you again. Non laptop student awards should be distributed in July. Teachers will report the first week in August and school starts on August 13. Students will pick up their schedules on August 9 and August 10. We look forward to seeing you again. Take care.

Sincerely

David Gordon
School Director
